Please accept my deepest sympathies for your loss. You are not alone in that all Marine Corps moms weep with you. I like to believe that Deryk has now joined his Marine brothers and sisters who passed before, and still, he Protects and Serves us, one and all from that higher place. He will not be forgotten.
May you find some measure of peace through this difficult time. May you know that you are not alone, deeply loved, and prayed for each day.

Natalie Purington says
I’m deeply saddened to hear the news of your loved ones death in Iraq. Although I did not know him, I will never forget him. As I write, I feel deep gratitude to this young man who made the ultimate sacrifice, and to the parents who raised such an honorable and heroic servant to his country. We Americans all too often take our way of life for granted, forgetting the toll, in toil
and tears, that our members of the Armed Services and their families must too often pay. I know I will never meet you, but please know that his life, although too short, will make a difference for long years to come in the lives of many, many people you may never meet. I, for one, hold up your loved one’s life as a shining example of what it means to be a good and true American.
God bless you & comfort you,

Roger Evelyn Snyder says
To each of you, there are no words that will bring Deryk back. The hurt and pain you feel, the piece of your heart that went with him. Please know we are here for you at any time.
Deryk is now with the largest base and Our Lord as Commander in Chief.
There are no answers, there is pain, hurt, anger, denial, and an emptiness that will always remain.
We ask why, and all I can do is to tell you to give Deryk the highest HONOR anyone could have. He gave the ultimate sacrifice so that you and I may be free, so that other countries may share the freedom. He is to be honored in the highest way.
There is nothing like loosing a child. The one gift you do have are the good memories and always keep them up front.
May God Bless your family,
Love Roger and Evelyn

My deepest sympathy to the family and god bless i leave this poem which was passed on to me the author is unknow but it says it all
I Give To You My Son
I hugged him as a boy.
And through the years he has become
My greatest pride and joy.
I love him more than I can say,
His life more precious than my own.
But gone are the whims and notions
Of the little boy that I have known.
For the years have passed so quickly
Since the time it all began,
And now he stands before me
With the convictions of a man.
He wants to serve his country
He states aloud with pride,
As I try to sort out the emotions
That I’m feeling deep inside.
A union of the uncertain fear,
Which I cannot control,
And the allegiance that lies deep within
My patriotic soul.
I trust that my years of guidance
Will serve as a strong foundation
As he perfoms the duties requested
From his beloved nation.
God, please guide him as he travels
To the places our Marines have bled,
And walk with him through pathways
where those heroes’ feet have tread.
Oh, Sweet Land of Liberty,
Humbly I give you my son,
Praying you’ll return him safely home
When his work for you is done
